In the film, a Union East flight was about to collide with a Pan National Airlines Boeing 747 after a loss of power to New York, including the Airport control. The power is restored just in time and the pilots save the aircraft from crashing.

In 2014, Electro, one of the supervillains in the film, causes a blackout in New York City, affecting the air traffic control network. Eventually the power is restored and the Union East flight narrowly avoids a Pan National Airlines Boeing 747.
