FlyUS, stylized as flyUS, and sometimes misinterpreted as FlyU6, is an American airline that appears throughout the Grand Theft Auto video game series. In the video game Real Flight Simulator, a few liveries of the airline are present.

Description[]

It has backstory with a description of "A once great American airline now left with a fleet of aging deathtraps that they can no longer afford to repair or safety-check. Home of vinegary old hags and bitter fruit flight attendants." As stated in radio commercials in Grand Theft Auto V, it was founded in 1983 with the same era planes still in service. The flight attendants are described as old, cranky and miserable, and the air service is implied to be poor and uncomfortable, as one of their slogans is "Sit back, relax and shut up". This could possibly be a stereotype of American flight companies. The Motto and tagline is "Live a Little, fly With US". It is known to offer domestic, international and business flights.

Appearances[]

Grand Theft Auto IV[]

FlyUS appears to be the only airline serving Francis International Airport in Liberty City. The company has teamed up with the NOOSE, in order to give away free tickets to "rogue states" such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and nearby countries with all expenses paid, in 2009. Inside the US, FlyUS has been known to serve personal information of passengers to criminals.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars[]

FlyBoy, who supposedly is an employee of FlyUS, sends Huang Lee a spam mail claiming that the company has teamed up with the NOOSE, in order to give away free tickets to "rogue states" such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and nearby countries with all expenses paid. Oddly, the company is misspelled as "FlyU6" in the e-mail. In the last lines, he writes "When booking, please note that FlyU6 will not sell-on your private details to criminals, hackers, or terrorists (outside of the US)."

It is unsure if the planes at Francis Intl. belong to FlyUS since the livery does not bear FlyUS titles but the livery is similar to the one in GTA IV.

Grand Theft Auto V[]

It has a smaller presence at Los Santos International Airport. FlyUS seems to let passengers smoke on board, as a pack of cigarettes are seen to come with the in-flight meal.

In the GTA V storyline, one of the protagonists, Michael De Santa, takes a FlyUS flight in the mission "Bury the Hatchet". As seen in the mission, while the exterior of the plane looks modern, the FlyUS interior looks rather outdated. The aged yellowing wall and ceiling panels combined with the green striped wallpaper and the bright blue seats gives it the appearance of a 1960s airline interior. This could possibly be hinting at FlyUS's apparent use of "aging death traps".

Real Flight Simulator[]

FlyUS only appears as a fan-made livery as liveries can be made for the aircraft.

Basis[]

In GTA IV, the livery bears resemblance to United Airlines' 1993-2004 "Battleship Grey" livery.

Fleet[]

FlyUS operates and has operated the following aircraft throughout the GTA series:

Grand Theft Auto IV / The Lost and the Damned / The Ballad of Gay Tony[]

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars[]

Grand Theft Auto V[]

Real Flight Simulator[]

  • Airbus A319
  • Boeing 747-8
  • McDonnell Douglas MD-81

Ground Fleet[]

FlyUS also has a large ground fleet decked out in their livery, such as airplane and baggage tugs. All ground vehicles listed are fictional.

Known Destinations[]

  • Liberty City - Major presence in Francis International Airport.
  • Los Santos - Major presence in Los Santos International Airport, seen in billboards.
  • Vice City - Seen in billboards.
  • Las Venturas - Seen advertised in billboards.
  • North Yankton - Michael De Santa, one of the protagonists, travels to Ludendorff (A town in the State) on a FlyUS plane.

In addition to this, a radio ad in GTA V states that they have added 42 new destinations worldwide as of 2013.

Accidents and Incidents[]

While no FlyUS crashes are mentioned in Grand Theft Auto V, a sunken plane can be found in the ocean in the game, bearing a livery similar to the old grey and blue. The FlyUS logo is barely visible on the front piece of the aircraft. The lack of accumulated corals around the fuselage suggest it might have crashed in the sea not long before the events of the game.

  1. On December 12th, 2022 Fly Us flight 23 operated by a Boeing 747-8 stalled and crashed just short of runway 8 at Phoenix Sky harbor Airport in Phoenix, Az. The initial investigation concluded that the flight crew failed to properly set the landing configurations for the aircraft flaps on final approach, as the aircraft descended below 1000 feet the GPWS warned the pilots to set the flaps to their proper settings, however they acted to late and the aircraft lost significant air speed and lift. 6 people on the ground were killed and 45 of the 257 passengers on board were killed as well.
  2. On February 12, 2023 Fly Us Flight 16 operated by a 747-400 once again lost hydraulic systems on left side wing causing the aircraft to bank heavily to the right side, the pilots were able to Maneuver the airplane to retain stable flight. The captain declared an emergency and returned to KPHX where the flight originated, the plane however missed touch down on the runway and instead landed on a taxi way, it then proceeded to skid off the taxi way and into an active parking Gate. It crashed into a terminal and the plane destroyed half the terminal and its itself. Both pilots are reported to have been killed in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.

Trivia[]

  • All aircraft operated by the airline are based on real-life aircraft:
    • The Airtrain is a hybrid of the Boeing 727 and 747. Its name is a reference to Boeing's main rival, Airbus.
    • The Buckingham Shamal is based on the Learjet 45.
    • The Jet in both GTA IV and V is based on the Boeing 747. In GTA IV, it is based on the 747-300 while in GTA V, it is a hybrid of the 747-400 and 747-8i.
    • In GTA V, only the Twinjet operated by FlyUS is based on the Boeing 767. Twinjets operated by other airlines are hybrids of the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737.
